Andrew had Kangaroo Care twice today with a very contented girl who enjoyed snuggling up to her Daddy for a cuddle. Both times were for Eva’s CPAP breaks for today. During the second cuddle Eva’s oxygen saturation levels were dropping. So Catherine put low flow oxygen via tiny nasal prongs to give Eva a boost without the pressure of CPAP. This is the next step after CPAP. Eva protested briefly about the nasal prongs but settled down shortly. Eva was enjoying the freedom of not having the mask and twisting her head to look up at Andrew. He enjoyed her being so relaxed and her looking up inquisitively at him made him fell like a Dad and that he was establishing a bond with Eva. Andrew really does enjoy his weekends with Eva doing any little thing he can for her.
When back in her crib today Eva was fast asleep especially during her feeds. I guess the time without CPAP does make her tired. Eva seems to be enjoying her 16mls of milk although she had a small vomit today.
Pam, the consultant came to see Eva today and seemed pleased with her progress. She said Eva didn’t need weekly head scans anymore since her last scan was fine.
Andrew even managed to get a haircut today, which he had been trying to do for 3 weeks!
We had 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep last night. It seems the alarm didn’t go for me to get up and express and I didn’t even wake during the night to realise. Of course we both feel refreshed from this but I wonder if all of my hard effort to increase my milk supply will take a loss seeing as I missed the middle of the night expression. I think it is the best sleep I have had since pre-pregnancy! As a result I feel like I spent most of today’s visit in the expressing room trying to catch up.
This evening we relaxed in front of a DVD and we are looking forward to an early night.
